    Description

    1835 JR-1 Dime, MS66
None Are Finer at Either Service

1835 10C JR-1, R.1 MS66 NGC. While examples of the 1935 issue are generally available in lesser grades, the populations at both services are quite limited in Premium Gem condition and the issue is unavailable any finer. The present coin is among the few finest, despite the fact that more than 1.4 million pieces were struck (not counting any additional mintages in 1836 and 1837 that were dated 1835 as suggested by die sequencing).

A rich, tangerine-gold patina covers the obverse of the current example, with a ring of cerulean-blue at the rim and uninhibited mint luster shining through. The reverse shows a ring of blue and amber-gold toning at the border surrounding a largely untoned, flashy silver center. A razor-sharp, full strike greets all of the raised devices, with full details at the star centers and on the central motifs. Neither PCGS nor NGC reports a numerically finer example of the issue, regardless of variety. Census (all varieties): 7 in 66, 0 finer (7/15). (NGC ID# 237F, Variety PCGS# 38879, Base PCGS# 4527)

    Weight: 2.70 grams

    Metal: 89.24% Silver, 10.76% Copper

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
