    1835 Capped Bust Dime, MS65+
    Scarce JR-2 Variety

1835 10C JR-2, R.4, MS65+ PCGS. CAC. Mint records indicate a large mintage of more than 1.4 million Capped Bust dimes was achieved in 1835. In addition, die evidence suggests many 1835-dated dimes were actually struck in 1836, or even 1837, making the supply even larger than the mintage figures suggest. Nine different die varieties are known for the date. This coin represents the JR-2 variety, with a Fancy 8 in the date and the U in UNITED placed lower than the N. The JR-2 is a scarce variety, especially in high grade.

The present coin is a Plus-graded Gem, the single-finest certified example of this variety identified by either of the leading grading services (2/19). The design elements are sharply detailed, aside from a touch of softness on the arrow fletchings. The well-preserved surfaces radiate vibrant mint luster, under shades of lavender-gray and pale gold toning. Eye appeal is outstanding. (Variety PCGS# 38880, Base PCGS# 4527)
