    Description

    1835 Dime, Near-Gem
    Razor-Sharp Strike, JR-5

1835 10C JR-5, R.1, MS64 PCGS. The design motifs are almost fully rendered with the only area of incompleteness limited to the four lower olive leaves. Each side is richly patinated in shades of blue, olive, and violet-gray complementing light multicolor iridescence on parts of the reverse. Minuscule scattered marks are undistracting.

Variety: JR-5, R.1. The distance between the 5 in the date and Liberty's lowest hair curl attributes this available variety.

Population Data (9/15): For the year 1835 this is one of 73 in MS64 at PCGS (two MS64+) with 18 finer.

Heritage Commentary: The 1835 has the highest mintage among all Capped Bust dimes -- a production exceeding 1.4 million coins -- and JR-5 is among the most plentiful varieties seen. These factors, combined with this Choice example's excellent preservation and eye appeal, make it an ideal type candidate.

    Provenance: Stack's (12/1998), lot 1254. (NGC ID# 237F, Variety PCGS# 38883, Base PCGS# 4527)

    Weight: 2.70 grams

    Metal: 89.24% Silver, 10.76% Copper
