    Description

    Attractive 1807 50 Over 20 Half Dollar, MS63 NGC

1807 50C Large Stars, 50 Over 20 MS63 NGC. O-112, R.1. The variety is attributed by star 1 pointing between segments, and the broad 0 in the date which is large compared to the other digits. The 5 in 50 C. was first punched using a 2, then corrected by punching a 5 over the 2, portions of which show clearly on this specimen. The 1807 50/20 is frequently seen in grades up to and including AU, but becomes relatively scarce in Mint State. The MS63 example offered here has bright, lustrous surfaces with touches of light golden-brown toning at the borders. The design elements are well centered on the planchet, and are nicely impressed, and the dentilation is complete on each side. Aside from a couple of minor ticks here and there, there are no significant abrasions. A few wispy slidemarks are noted, but do not detract from the overall appeal of this attractive half. Population: 4 in 63, 11 finer (10/04).(#6086) (Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 24EN, PCGS# 6086)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
