Description

1810 50C AU55 PCGS. O-102a, R.1. Star 12 has a trace of recutting, and there is a small die defect on Liberty's upper lip, identifying the obverse. The T in UNITED is also recut, which is diagnostic for the reverse. This later die state example has a die crack that encircles nearly all of the reverse lettering, in addition to several other cracks emanating from the date. A shallow scratch through Liberty's cheek is barely worthy of mention. Slate-gray and medium brown surround the perimeter, with a streak of russet across the reverse. Several darker spots are noted on the reverse. The top of the eagle's left wing is weakly struck, as usual, but the rest of the details are sharp. Flashy luster gives this piece delightful eye appeal. (Registry values: N991)
