Description

1811 Small 8 Half, O-107, MS64
High-Condition Census R.4 Coin

1811 50C Small 8, O-107, R.4, MS64 PCGS. CAC. A small but clear die chip appears at the top of the last 1 in the date. The reverse is a familiar die to Bust half specialists, showing one die crack that encircles much of the peripheral lettering. A second straight crack runs from the rim upward through the left (facing) wing tip, joining the first crack perpendicularly. The rose-gray surfaces display scattered touches of steel-blue and russet amid a bold strike, especially through the central obverse. Considerable luster appears. The eye appeal is excellent on this piece, certified in a green-label holder. This example of this very scarce variety is likely toward the upper end of the Condition Census, although one MS66 PCGS (formerly MS66 NGC) coin is known, the ex: Phil Kaufman-Joseph C. Thomas piece, now in the Dale Friend Collection.
Ex: Private purchase from Ellesmere Numismatics (11/1989).
