    1812/1 O-102 Half Dollar, MS65
    Small Overdate

1812/1 50C Small 8 MS65 NGC. O-102, R.2. Despite the heavy clash marks over the date and elsewhere, this is an early die state of the Small Overdate variety. Two overdated obverse dies exist, the other one with a Large 8 in the date being an important rarity. The two varieties share a blundered reverse die with the N in UNITED showing a stray serif at the lower right. Overton states it is a recut N while others suggest an inverted N. However, it appears to be the remnant of some other letter. This delightful Gem is fully lustrous beneath light gold toning with considerable peripheral iridescence on the obverse. Census: 1 in 65, 1 finer (3/12).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 24EY, PCGS# 6101)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
