Description

1812 Half Dollar, MS64
Variety O-106, Shattered Die

1812 50C MS64 PCGS. O-106. R.3. This distinctive 1812 variety is Overton's Variety O-106, struck from the shattered obverse die also used for Variety O-105a. Several prominent die cracks traverse the obverse and encircle the stars, with myriad cracks in and around the date. On the reverse, a heavy crack bisects the coin from the N in UNITED to the opposite rim between the words OF AMERICA. This near-Gem half displays splashes of attractive, reddish-caramel toning on frosty, silver-white surfaces. Excellent luster and striking details make this an excellent choice for date collectors and bust half variety specialists alike.
