Description

Condition Census 1813 Half Dollar--NGC MS 65

1813 MS 65 NGC. O-106a, R.2. A well executed coin, the devices are especially sharp in their definition and bright mint luster rolls across each side virtually uninterrupted by post-striking impairments. The mint brilliance is only broken by a light edging of golden patina at the margins. Heavily die clashed in the obverse fields. One would normally expect that such a lofty grade on an early date in the Bust half series would qualify it as finest known. However, for some unexplained reason a fair number of high grade survivors are known from this die pairing. The condition census as listed in the most recent edition of Overton is (67, 65, 65, 63, 60), making this piece tied for second finest. Population: 3 in 65, 3 finer (4/96).
