Description

1815/2 O-101 Half Dollar, Fine 15
Choice Example of an Important Date

1815/2 50C O-101, R.1, Fine 15 NGC. Gunmetal-gray and white-steel mix to form a delightful circulation cameo effect. Minor abrasions are less than expected for the grade, creating a choice example in a year where such coins are scarce. The 1815/2 is the only single die marriage year in the Capped Bust half dollar series, and all examples were delivered on January 10, 1816. The next day, a fire in the Mint building destroyed the Mint's roller presses, ending gold and silver coinage until mid-1817.
