Description

1817/3 O-101 Half Dollar, AU58
Bold Overdate, Subtle Toning

1817/3 50C O-101, R.2, AU58 CACG. This near-Mint Bust half dollar features the 7 in the date clearly punched over a pre-existing 3. While not quite as rare as the 1817/4 variety, the O-101 is conditionally rare in Mint State and AU-level pieces are highly sought after. This piece exhibits steel-gray surfaces with soft splashes of aquamarine, plum and tan-gold scattered throughout. Bright, satiny luster illuminates the boldly struck devices, with multiple die clashes typical of the issue. A hint of handling wear prevents a full Mint grade, but the overall quality is clear and eye appeal is excellent.
