Probable Finest Known 1818/7 Half
MS65, Ex: Eliasberg
1818/7 50C Large 8 MS65 NGC. O-101a, R.1. Ex: Eliasberg. One
of two overdates from this year, each of which is distinct and
collectible, one with a large first 8 in the date and the other
(O-102) with a small first 8. As expected from this die state,
extended die cracks are seen on each side. This piece is listed in
Stephen Herrman's Prices Realized for Bust Half Dollars as
the finest known. The surfaces are lustrous and the blue-gray
patina is accented with deep golden around the devices. Sharply
struck in all areas except on the upper left (facing) wing, as
