MS65, Ex: Eliasberg

1818/7 50C Large 8 MS65 NGC. O-101a, R.1. Ex: Eliasberg. One of two overdates from this year, each of which is distinct and collectible, one with a large first 8 in the date and the other (O-102) with a small first 8. As expected from this die state, extended die cracks are seen on each side. This piece is listed in Stephen Herrman's Prices Realized for Bust Half Dollars as the finest known. The surfaces are lustrous and the blue-gray patina is accented with deep golden around the devices. Sharply struck in all areas except on the upper left (facing) wing, as indicated in the Eliasberg catalog.
