Description

1818/7 Large 8 Bust Half, MS64
O-101a, Bullseye Album Toning

1818/7 50C Large 8, O-101a, R.1, MS64 NGC. CAC. Two different-sized 8s make up the date logotype, with the first 8 large, and the second 8 small (punched over an underdigit 7). A gap in the dentils beneath the C of 50 C on the reverse -- plus a long die crack through the denomination -- confirms the O-101a variety. Solidly in the Condition Census for the variety, this near-Gem half dollar shows only a few light marks and an above-average strike. Vibrant album toning is its main attraction, with vivid electric-blue borders and amber-gold centers. The strike is needle-sharp. Both sides display the requisite die clashing and die cracks for the O-101a variety. Census (all 1818/7 varieties): 13 in 64 (1 in 64 ), 4 finer (7/16). CAC: 3 in 64, 0 finer (7/16).
