Description

1822 O-114 Half Dollar, MS66
Probably Second Finest

1822 50C MS66 NGC. O-114, R.3. The famous Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., collection had a Specimen-66 coin that some called a proof. The next finest in any recent auctions was an MS65 PCGS specimen in the January 1999 sale of the Noblet Collection. This piece, off the market for decades, has not been seen by the current generation of collectors. We believe it is the second finest 1822 O-114 half dollar.
Both sides of this Premium Gem are lovingly preserved and display have fully original gold and pale blue toning over lustrous light gray surfaces -- the same look as many of the Eliasberg coins. With the sole exception of the collector that owns the Eliasberg specimen, this piece is the finest available 1822 O-114 half dollar. Census: 8 in 66, 1 finer (11/11), for all 1822 varieties.(Registry values: N4719)
