Description

1823 50C Broken 3 MS61 NGC. O-101, R.3. An interesting Guide Book variety with a large, crude 3 in the date. Overton speculates that an 1822 die was altered by hand to create the ungainly Broken 3. Medium gold and rose hues invigorate the peripheries, while the centers are untoned. A sharply struck, satiny, and attractive piece. Struck from clashed dies. NGC O-101 Population: 1 in 61, 3 finer (3/04).(#6132) (Registry values: N1793)
