Description

1824/1 O-101 Half Dollar, MS63
Radiantly Lustrous Overdated Example

1824/1 50C O-101, R.2, MS63 PCGS. Radiant silver surfaces burst with luster. Toning is only present around the periphery, appearing in a dazzling array of electric blue, toffee, and russet-brown shades. Strike is sharp, with only a touch of weakness on the highest curl. Evidence of this die's past life as an 1821 obverse is plainly evident on this specimen. The die can also be identified by the close 24 in the date, a feature shared by 1824's two rarest die marriages - the High R.5 O-102 and the R.5 O-114.
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2025), lot 5018.
