1826 Capped Bust Half, MS66
1826 50C MS66 PCGS. CAC. O-118a, R.1. The reverse has die
cracks through the tops of NITED STATES and MERICA on this late die
state Premium Gem. Stephen J. Herrman lists three MS66-graded
examples in his auction survey, two MS66 NGC specimens and one MS66
PCGS example. This example is the piece he lists as O-118 based on
the July 2008 Stack's description (then in an NGC holder), where
they failed to mention the die state. These three finest certified
examples are all properly attributed as O-118a.

Both sides have vibrant mint luster with satin surfaces and sharp design motifs, with lovely violet and light blue peripheral toning that accents the golden surfaces, creating excellent eye appeal. Population (for all 1826 varieties): 5 in 66, 2 finer (5/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 24FM, PCGS# 6143)
