Description

1827 50C Square Base 2 AU58 PCGS. O-138, R.4. Straight die lines below the eagle's head identify the reverse, and the C in the denomination is the smallest used for this date. This is the only use of this reverse die. Hints of yellow and lilac toning accent the steel-gray centers, and splendid cartwheel luster highlights the boldly struck devices, save for the usual softness on the highest hair curls and the stars. The surfaces have virtually no marks and the eye appeal is excellent.(Registry values: N991)
