Finest Late Die State
Second Finest of the Variety

1827 50C Square Base 2, O-116a, High R.5, MS63 PCGS. Ex: Meyer-Link. BHNC Die State 116.3. Both sides feature brilliant silver luster beneath delicate champagne toning that deepens to apricot, gold, and blue at the borders. The obverse has a delicate die crack through the upper points of star 2 toward the neck and another from star 11 to the hair curls. This example is the finest of the rare late die state and the second finest of the variety. Sheridan Downey found this piece at the pre-ANA show in Pittsburgh in 1989 and sold it to Charlton Meyer, Jr. over the phone.
