Description

1827 Square Base 2, XF45
Rare Overton-124 Variety

1827 50C Square Base 2, O-124, R.5, XF45 PCGS. Stars are drawn to edge in this second usage of the obverse die that has only partial dentilation. The late die state O-124a was delisted in 2020 by the Bust Half Nut Club as having "merely die erosion." This is an excellent specimen of the rare Overton-124 die marriage, always highly sought-after by Capped Bust half dollar collectors. Attractive medium gray, lighter on the high points, with olive-gray toning towards the edges. Light wear with only minor and unobtrusive marks. The portrait and eagle display nice detail definition.
