Description

Lovely 1828 Square Base 2, Small 8 Half Dollar, O-115, MS63

1828 50C Square Base 2, Small 8, Large Letters MS63 PCGS. O-115, R.2. This variety can best be distinguished by the reverse, which has a number of die lines from the motto to the top of the left wing, including a "spike" at the outer edge of the wing. On the obverse, star 13 nearly touches the hair curl. Medium and silver-gray toning mix across the surfaces of this carefully preserved piece. A few darker spots of toning are noted on the obverse, but both sides are nearly devoid of marks. The strike is bold save for the usual weakness on the stars. Several die cracks are noted on the reverse. A handsome piece with lots of luster.
