Description

1828 Half Dollar, O-119, MS65 PCGS
Square Base 2, Small 8, Small Letters
Ex: Green-Newman

1828 50C Square Base 2, Small 8, Small Letters MS65 PCGS. CAC. O-119, R.3. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green-Newman. Only this sole die pairing for 1828 shows the two attributes of Small 8 and Small Letters, much less the third Square Base 2 style, all of which are noted on the holder of this marvelous Gem coin that was offered last November in the Eric P. Newman Collection, Part II. Further identification of the O-119 die variety is provided by the reverse, which shows recutting on STATE, here visible without a loupe on the S, A (particularly), and E. Beautiful pink-champagne and ice-blue peripheral tinges complete for the viewer's attention with strong mint luster, a coin with maximal eye appeal. This coin was in the NGC holder as MS65 with CAC endorsement, and now has been crossed to MS65 PCGS with another CAC green bean.
Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $4.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society; Newman Part II (Heritage, 11/2013), lot 33457, which brought $21,150.
