1828 Half Dollar, O-119, MS65 PCGS
1828 50C Square Base 2, Small 8, Small Letters MS65 PCGS. CAC.
O-119, R.3. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green-Newman. Only this sole die
pairing for 1828 shows the two attributes of Small 8 and Small
Letters, much less the third Square Base 2 style, all of which are
noted on the holder of this marvelous Gem coin that was offered
last November in the Eric P. Newman Collection, Part II. Further
identification of the O-119 die variety is provided by the reverse,
which shows recutting on STATE, here visible without a loupe on the
S, A (particularly), and E. Beautiful pink-champagne and ice-blue
peripheral tinges complete for the viewer's attention with strong
mint luster, a coin with maximal eye appeal. This coin was in the
NGC holder as MS65 with CAC endorsement, and now has been crossed
to MS65 PCGS with another CAC green bean.

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.
This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
