Description

1829 50C Small Letters AU50--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. O-103, R.1. Overton-103 features a triangular lump die break about five dentils to the left (facing) of the date. The lump here is larger than sometimes seen. This coin is only lightly circulated and is boldly struck from moderately eroded dies. The coin is basically untoned, with a hint of orange at the rims, but the overly glossy fields attest to past cleaning. Examination with a loupe reveals small scrapes above the last S and the O in the legend, and a small dig above 50 C. There is an almost unnoticeable obverse graffito inside the loop of the 9, appearing to be a 6 or a "b."
