Description

1829 O-106 Small Letters Half, MS63 Prooflike
Fully Mirrored Fields
Late Die State

1829 50C Small Letters MS63 Prooflike NGC. O-106, Low R.5. There is no separate listing for the late die state O-106 half dollar of 1829, although the Overton reference describes a die crack through stars 10 and 11 to the hair curl that appears on some examples, including this prooflike specimen. Both Sides have brilliant centers with peripheral gold and iridescent toning. The finest known O-106 half dollar grades MS64, and the next best listed in Stephen Herrman's auction analysis is only MS61. This lovely example is likely the second finest known.(Registry values: N1793)
