Description

1829/7 O-101a Half Dollar, MS63
Semireflective Fields, Lapped Die State

1829/7 50C O-101a, R.1, MS63 PCGS. Recutting on the date is visible on all four numerals, with digits under the 2 and 9 the most obvious evidence of the overdate. A scarce and highly sought variety, prized in Mint State. This example displays mottled iridescent toning over sharply struck motifs and semireflective fields. Struck from the late die state where die lapping removes most of the eagle's tailfeathers and the midsections of the arrow shafts. Pleasing mint luster glows beneath the moderate toning. Population: 15 in 63 (1 in 63+), 25 finer (6/16).
