Description

Lustrous 1832 Small Letters Half Dollar, O-110, MS63

1832 50C Small Letters MS63 PCGS. O-110, R.1. A "spike" at the top of the cap typically identifies the obverse, but one must be careful because this same defect is sometimes seen on O-109, which shares the same obverse. The 5 in the denomination is slightly recut on the outer curve, which is diagnostic for the reverse. This bright silver-gray piece has a brilliant obverse that contrasts nicely against the lightly toned reverse. Several tiny dark toning spots on each side barely affect the magnificent satiny luster that graces both sides of this minimally marked specimen. The central design elements are sharply struck, with the typical softness on the stars and the LURIB in PLURIBUS. (Registry values: N1793)
