Description

1834 50C Small Date, Small Letters AU58 NGC. O-113, R.1. This variety can be difficult to attribute, especially when several of the key diagnostic areas are weakly defined. A sharply curled upper lip aids in the attribution of the obverse. On the reverse, a trace of a first engraving of the E in the motto is visible to the right of its present location. The URI in PLURIBUS is flat, as often seen, and the stars and hair curls are also soft. Hints of amber toning in the periphery accent the medium gray devices. A small patch of charcoal toning is noted to the left of the eagle's head for identification purposes. This minimally marked and attractive example would make a wonderful representative of a late Bust half dollar.
