Description
1836 Lettered Edge Bust Half, Extremely Fine Details
O-105, Attractive Color
1836 50C Lettered Edge--Improperly Cleaned--NGC. Extremely Fine
Details. O-105, R.3. Incorrectly described as an O-121 on
the holder. The 1836 Lettered Edge Bust half was produced in
large numbers, as the denomination was a workhorse in the
contemporary economy. The present coin represents the scarce O-105
variety, distinguished by a group of corrugated vertical bars at
the reverse rim, between the leaves and 50 C, and a gap in the
dentils above Liberty's cap, which separates it from the
O-121. The devices retain much original detail, and the surfaces
are enhanced by iridescent shades of crimson, lilac, and
blue.(Registry values: N208)
