Description

1833 Bust Half Dollar, MS66+
Second-Finest O-108

1833 50C O-108, R.1, MS66+ PCGS. CAC. Rich ocean-blue, autumn-brown, butter-gold, and violet-red toning encompasses this remarkably unabraded representative. The strike is bold throughout. Overton-108 is often attributed by the extension of the lowest horizontal shield line into the right (facing) wing. The present lot is the former Philip Kaufman specimen, auctioned by Heritage as lot 2447 in our April 2009 Central States Signature, at the time in an MS67 NGC holder. It is the second-finest known example of the variety, exceeded in grade solely by an MS68 PCGS coin that last appeared at auction in January 2005.
