    1808/7 Bust Half, Colorful MS64
    O-101, Spectacular Two-Sided Toning

1808/7 50C O-101, R.1, MS64 PCGS Secure. CAC. Ex: Friend. Both the obverse and reverse of this Choice Uncirculated 1808/7 feature similar toning patterns that employ vibrant iridescent borders around smooth, reddish-tan centers, with pale-blue overtones. Mint luster shines brightly from the recesses of Liberty's hair and throughout semiprooflike margins. The dramatic coloration highlights a sharp strike that fully defines motifs throughout both the obverse and reverse.

Every obverse star is sharp and fully formed. The late die state draws a few outer points toward the edge, typical of an advanced use of the dies, and confirmed by several peripheral die cracks and areas of die clashing. Marks are virtually absent even under magnification, and the overdate is sharp and clear. Currently tied at the low end of the Condition Census, this near-Gem has the surface quality and eye appeal that suggests an even finer grade, and it is CAC-endorsed accordingly.

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
