Description

1811 Half Dollar, Toned MS63
Small 8, Scarce O-112a Die Marriage

1811 50C Small 8, O-112a, R.5, MS63 PCGS. Ex: Link. This is a scarce die pair in the early Capped Bust series, especially when seen in the late die state. The obverse shows an array of obverse die cracks, including one that originates at the first 1 in the date and runs tangent to the inner left-hand star points to the rim above star 7. Other die cracks decorate Liberty's cap, and bold cracks extend from stars 9 and 13. The reverse shows a crack along the top of D STATES. Bluish-brown and copper-gold toning glow with underlying mint luster throughout the sharply struck Select Uncirculated surfaces. According to Stephen Herrman's Autumn 2021 revision, this is the finest 1811 Overton-112a, last seen at auction in 2006. It is the PCGS CoinFacts plate coin.
