Description

1812 O-104 Half Dollar, MS65
High Condition Census

1812 50C Large 8, O-104, R.1, MS65 PCGS. Ex: Link. The present half dollar is listed in second place in the Autumn 2021 Herrman Census for O-104, trailing only the example from Auction '90. A horizontal die line through the eagle's left (facing) wing is diagnostic for O-104. This lustrous Gem is well struck save for the upper two left-side stars. Peach-gold, ocean-blue, and jade-green toning enrich protected areas, though portions of the fields and portrait remain brilliant. A small crescent-shaped flan flaw on the field behind the cap provides an identifier.
Ex: New England Museum; New Orleans ANA (Stack's Bowers, 5/2013), lot 338; Regency Auction 28 (Legend, 9/2018), lot 16.
