Description

1815 B-1 Capped Bust Quarter, AU55
Some Luster Remains

1815 25C B-1, R.1, AU55 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 4/2. The Capped Bust Left design was first used on quarters in 1815, because the denomination was not minted from 1807-1815. Only one die variety is known for the date. This attractive Choice AU example is sharply detailed in most areas, but a little weakness shows on the eagle's leg and claws. The fields show only minor abrasions, with some streaky golden-tan toning.
Ex: New York Signature (Heritage, 3/2012), lot 3310, which realized $3,737.50.
