Description

1815 B-1 Quarter, MS60
First-Year Capped Bust Date

1815 25C B-1, R.1, MS60 NGC. Tompkins Die State 4/2. Double die clashing exists above the date and bridging the gap between Liberty's lowest curl and the drapery. While John Reich's Capped Bust design that made its initial appearance on half dollars eight years earlier, this is its first appearance on a quarter. Examples are always popular with type collectors and the 1815 issue is available in nearly any circulated grade, although it is curiously scarce at the lowest Mint State levels. This MS60 piece displays pleasing pewter-gray surfaces surrounded by taupe-gray borders. A sharp strike exists throughout and a loupe reveals only a few tiny marks. NGC Census: 1 in 60, 44 finer (2/25).
