Description

1818 B-2 Quarter, MS65
Scarcely Seen Finer

1818 25C B-2, R.1, MS65 NGC. Tompkins Die State 2/1. This early die state is identifiable by the die crack which runs from star 7 through stars 8-10. No clashing is present on this example, which is seen in later states of the issue. Attractive deep gray luster engulfs the rims while the interior is a mixture of glimmering silver and orange toning, as well as some brown patina. The strike is pleasing with excellent sharpness within the hair and the shield. The coin is free from any diminishing marks that would distract from it. The issue is rarely seen finer than Gem Uncirculated in all varieties with just 10 reported by NGC (7/26).
