Description

1818 B-2 Quarter, MS65
Early PCGS Holder, CAC Approval

1818 25C B-2, R.1, MS65 PCGS. CAC. Tompkins Die State 2/1, cracked above Liberty's cap and through the right-hand stars. The B-2 die marriage is unknown with a perfect obverse die state. On this Gem example, the reverse die is in an early, uncracked state. B-2 is plentiful among 1818 quarter dollars, and many Mint State pieces are known. Nonetheless, this Gem example is conditionally rare. The surfaces display frosty luster and bold design elements, complementing impressive grayish-violet and golden toning. An exemplary Capped Bust type coin. Housed in a first generation holder. Population (all non-overdate varieties included): 22 in 65, 5 finer. CAC: 5 in 65, 3 finer (11/18).
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2012), lot 3174, which realized $33,350.
