1818 Quarter, Near-Mint
Challenging B-6 Variety
1818 25C B-6, R.4, AU58 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 1/5. Nearly
the terminal die state, though without the internal die break above
the right wing. B-6 is a much better variety, distinctive for the
bold radial cracks seen on the reverse of most examples. This is a
pleasing cream-gray near-Mint example with unblemished surfaces and
moderate incompleteness of strike on the curls and plumage.Ex: Jules Reiver Collection (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 22358, which realized $4,887.50; Denis W. Loring Capped Bust Quarter Collection; to the present consignor.
