Finest Known 1818 B-5 Quarter, MS65
1818 25C MS65 NGC. B-5, R.5. Blended dove-gray, plum-mauve, and autumn-gold attest to the originality of this satiny and well struck Gem. Thorough evaluation with the aid of a loupe fails to find evenly remotely mentionable marks. As a date, 1818 quarters are available in circulated grades, and several common varieties can also be located in Mint State grades. However, the B-5 is far from common. According to the Census listing in Early United States Quarters (Steve Tompkins), this coin is the first Mint State B-5 to appear in an auction sale since 1988.
