Description

1818 25C VF35 PCGS. CAC. B-2, R.1. The date is noticeably wide and star 13 is obviously repunched, identifying the obverse. The reverse is distinguished by the location of the scroll and the letters in the motto. This piece is Breen Die State II, with a die crack from the field above Liberty's cap and through stars 8, 9, and 10. Although Browning wrote that there were several die flaws by the 2 in the denomination, on this piece it appears that the 2 was actually repunched. Pale gray toning drapes the devices, which contrast nicely against the gunmetal-gray fields. A couple of nearly imperceptible scratches behind Liberty's head are barely worthy of note. (Registry values: P2)
