1818/5 Capped Bust Quarter, B-1, MS64+
Very Rare Any Finer
1818/5 25C B-1, R.2, MS64+ PCGS. CAC. This late die state
example has a heavy vertical die crack on the reverse, as well as
other cracks, clash marks, and flow lines. Following the War of
1812 and the January 1816 fire that destroyed important equipment
at the Philadelphia Mint, coinage production finally returned to
normal by 1818. The copper cents of 1816 and 1817, and the half
dollars dated 1817 were the only coins made during those two years.
Quarter dollars and half eagles reappeared in 1818. This Choice
Mint State piece has frosty antique-silver luster and lovely gold
toning. The design motifs are bold. An exceptionally attractive
Capped Bust quarter. Population: 2 in 64 (1 in 64+), 2 finer
