Description

NGC 1818/5 AU 53. Quarters were not produced from 1816 to 1818, partly as a result of shortage of silver bullion due to the War of 1812, and the fire that occurred at the Philadelphia mint in early 1816. This is a popular overdate variety that does not command a substantial premium over the other type coin issues in this series. Just a minimal amount of wear shows over quite lustrous surfaces that are not impaired by problems or abrasions.
