Captivating Gem 1818/5 Capped Bust Quarter
1818/5 25C MS 65 NGC. B-1, R.3. The only overdate variety of this delivery, the 1818/5 is a popular issue due to its association with the key date 1815. Struck from an advanced die state, both sides display bold clashmarks in the fields. These features do not, however, detract from the technical merits of this thickly frosted Gem. There are no mentionable abrasions, and the strike is both nicely centered and uncommonly sharp for the type. The centers are untoned and radiant within mottled orange-russet and cobalt peripheral iridescence. Type collectors and Bust quarter specialists alike would be wise to enter strong bids for this lovely example.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 5323, GSID# 5099)
