Description
Superb 1819 Small 9 Capped Bust Quarter
1819 MS 66 NGC. Small 9, Colon After 25C. B-3. R.1. Ex: Dawson. The latest die state of this most common 1819 variety, with die cracks from the border through star 11, another touching the first 1 in the date through the bust, and a third at the base of the reverse through the broadly doubled 5 of the denomination into the arrow feathers. Both sides of this wondrously preserved example are well detailed considering the extensive die use, being a smidgen soft on Liberty's highest curls, the upper left stars, and on the eagle's beak and talons. The surfaces are drenched in a warm gray and golden patina, with occasional overlays of subtle steel-blue. Large Size Capped Bust quarters just don't get much better than this. Population: 1 in 66, none finer (7/98).
