High Grade (AU55) Browning 3 1820 Quarter, AU55

1820 25C AU55 PCGS. Large 0. B-3, R.3. Listed in the updated Browning as the first variety of the year. All known examples show a die crack that connects all the stars on the left and the 1 and 8 in the date. Considered "exceedingly rare" in mint condition. At the AU55 level, this piece is tied with several others at the lower end of the Condition Census. Granted, that C.C. is out of date now, but when the Breen update was published in 1992 it was listed as (63, 60, 60, 60, 55, 55).
Softly struck over the highpoints on each side. The surfaces display brightness beneath the speckled gray-blue toning that covers both obverse and reverse. (Registry values: P4)
