Description

Appealing 1820 Large O Quarter
MS64, B-1

1820 25C Large 0 MS64 NGC. CAC. B-1, R.4. There is a small lump above the dentils between 2 and 0 in the date, and all reverse Ts are defective at the bottom right. Regardless of die marriage, the 1820 is rarely encountered in Mint State. Indeed, NGC and PCGS have graded fewer than 30 Uncirculated pieces, a number of which are likely resubmissions.
A penetrating strike leaves strong definition on the design elements of this near-Gem example. Orange-red patina occupies the centers, while electric-blue dominates the borders. Rotation beneath a light reveals just a few minute marks well concealed within the toning. Pleasing overall appeal. Census: 5 in 64, 5 finer (10/08).
