Description
Gem Uncirculated B-2 1820 Large 0 Quarter--Tied For Finest Known
1820 25C Large 0 MS65 PCGS. B-2, R.2. This interesting variety is most easily attributable by the two diverging die scratches that connect the third leaf left of the denomination to the dentils, and the positioning of the 0 in the date relative to the curl above. This piece is apparently tied for finest known, as the Condition Census in the most recent edition of Browning is (65, 63, 60PL, 60, 60, 60). Overall, the devices on this coin are very crisp and unusually well defined with the only area of softness being on the eagle's talons. Mostly brilliant, there is just the slightest hint of golden color on each side, and the fields are bright and semi-prooflike. An exceptionally pleasing Bust quarter and many times rarer than the more widely collected half dollars from this same era.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 5329, GSID# 5066)
