Description

1820 Quarter, B-4, Toned MS62
Semiprooflike Fields

1820 25C Small 0, B-4, R.2, MS62 NGC. CAC. B-4 is one of the more often seen of the five 1820 quarter varieties, but it is still scarce in Mint State. This example is notable for its semiprooflike fields -- particularly on the obverse -- and its natural olive-gray and golden toning that yields tinges of rose and teal when tilted in-hand. The eagle's talons are poorly defined, but the stars, border denticles, and obverse portrait are boldly struck. All varieties included, NGC shows four pieces in MS62 and 21 numerically finer (4/15).
