1821 Capped Bust Quarter, MS64
B-4, Lustrous and Attractively Toned
Partially Prooflike Fields
1821 25C B-4, R.3, MS64 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 1/2. Struck
from a perfect obverse die, without die cracks or die clashing. A
solitary reverse die crack runs radially through the upright of E
in UNITED. This is a beautifully toned near-Gem, with reflective
fields beneath a mantle of cobalt-blue and amber-gold patina. The
strike is sharp except at Liberty's highest curl below the ribbon
ends, while the eagle's talons and stars 5 to 8 show minor
rounding. Semiprooflike fields are essentially free of any marks
and abrasions. Population (all varieties combined): 9 in 64, 13
