Description

1821 MS 64 NGC. B-5, R.5. The fields have a subtle reflectivity on each side that adds even more to the already considerable eye appeal of this piece. But, as stated, this is a subtle effect with other elements more dominant when one first views the coin. The strike is unusually bold in the centers but a trifle weak on several of the stars at the periphery. Both sides are mostly brilliant with the vaguest hint of light golden-gray patina at the peripheries. At the top of the obverse there are several vertical grease stains (as struck), but these detract little from the overall desirability of this high grade Large Size quarter. Population: 9 in 64, only 1 finer (1/95).
